El Dorado Park Estates is a mile square area with 1,367 homes and some 28 different floor plans. This lovely neighborhood is bordered by the 605 Freeway to the west, Norwalk Blvd. (city and county border) to the east, Spring St. to the South and the City of Long Beach border to the north.

This was the first large neighborhood built by S&S Construction. The first home was occupied on March 1, 1963 and the final home was finished and occupied on April 17, 1974. Soon after this neighborhood was completed, the company went on the New York Stock Exchange. Today their name is Shapell Industries.

El Dorado Park Estates is the home of an award winning school, the Douglas A. Newcomb Academy, which opened to 300 students in September 1963. It serves ages from kindergarten through 8th grade program. The Academic Performance Index (the number to which all state elementary schools aspire) for this school has been in the 800 to 900 range for the past few years, and this year exceeded 900.

Newcomb will be closed until 2015 to undergo upgrading, and modernization. This project will take 3 years to complete and students will be bused to Keller during this time. Newcomb will be an even more vibrant school when it reopens. The community is anxiously awaiting the arrival of this fabulous new school.

The area is adjacent to an 805 acre El Dorado Park, and many of the neighbors walk or bike daily. This park is also the home of a great library, a senior center, a nature center, and an animal shelter. It provides a great area for our children to play. The Park is also home to a Championship 18 hole golf course, which hosts the Long Beach Open, a golf tournament that has launched many PGA professionals careers.

El Dorado Park Estates – a great place to live, with a great school, a great location, close to everything and a family friendly neighborhood
